Kim Kho-Han
Abstract
The ultimate purpose of the various surface treatment of titanium is improvement of osseointegration of titanium. Recently, the surface treatment of titanium has focused on bioactive molecules deposition, such as RGD, BMP, and growth factor related on osteoblast proliferation and adhesion to enhance the osseointegration when titanium implant was applied in clinically. The RGD motif plays an important role in cell-matrix adhesion and activation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. In this study, after RGD peptide immobilization, the effect of RGD-immobilized titanium surface to osteoblast adhesion and proliferation were evaluated. RGD immobilized titanium by covalent bond promoted the MG63 osteoblast adhesion and spreading. The proliferation of MG 63 cells grown on RGD immobilized titanium was enhanced.
